In light of the collapse of a portion of a parking deck in Atlanta on Monday, June
29, the University of Georgia will be thoroughly inspecting and assessing the structural
integrity of all UGA parking decks. While none of the University's decks has shown
any type of structural deficiency and there is no reason to believe that any issues
may currently exist, the review is being conducted to affirm the safety of all who
park and work in the facilities.
The University will hire two separate and independent structural engineering firms
to conduct the analysis of the 10 decks in the system - eight existing and two under
construction. The work should be completed by the time classes resume for the fall
semester and will also result in a master plan for preventive maintenance of the
decks in the future, an initiative that was already underway.
No decks will need to be closed for the inspections. However, if any patrons who
park in the deck would prefer to park elsewhere until the studies are complete,
those arrangements can be made by contacting Parking Services at (706) 542-7275.
Good news for Disabled customers! We have improved our registration processes. Disabled
customers can now register for parking completely online by submitting their disability
placard or license information via FAX, mail, or scanned image. Please follow the
procedures under My Parking Account (Register for Parking) tab.
