Keeping you up to date on parking improvements and changes...

  1. Awards. Parking Services is proud to have been awarded the International Parking Institute’s (IPI) 2009 Organization of the Year (runner-up). Parking Services’ own Blaine Van Note was also named as the IPI 2009 International Supervisor of the Year on the strength of his professional support for campus special events, and Parking had three employees (Linwood Hill, Tysen DeDufour, Mike Chalker) recognized during the 2009 Finance and Administration awards ceremony.

  2. Construction Advisory. There are more than 25 campus construction projects impacting parking. Loss of space due to construction impacts not only the lots with construction, but creates a “domino effect” in other lots as people, with seniority under the parking priority system, are displaced from one lot and “bump out” others with less seniority in another lot. Parking Services is working closely with the Architect’s Office, various contractors, and Physical Plant to mitigate the impact of construction. We will make best efforts to grandfather customers into their desired lots.

  3. New Decks. Building of the Performing Arts Center deck and Intramural Field decks is progressing. The PAC deck is scheduled to be completed in November, 2009 and the IM deck is scheduled to be completed in August, 2009. We think the IM deck will be especially attractive to commuters who have easy access to the deck via the 10 loop or College Station Rd. Customers will have protection from the elements in the deck and we are offering this deck at our lowest monthly rate ($20/month). Campus Transit is extending and improving service on the Orbit and East Campus Express routes to serve customers choosing to use this facility, connecting you to all parts of campus. More information will be sent out when registration opens for these decks.

  4. AVI. Thank you to our customers who helped us test Automated Vehicle Identification (AVI) last year. AVI allows customers “hands free” entry and exit, and the customer does not have to roll down their window to be exposed to the elements. AVI also speeds entry and exit. All of the “bugs” have been worked out of AVI and we are offering this technology in the Carlton, North, IM, and PAC decks as well as the E01 lot. We are also offering a choice of transferrable and non-transferable AVI devices in the decks (except the IM deck).

  5. East Deck and Hull St Conversions. Due to required support for special events and customer and Department requests for more visitor spaces in the East campus, the East Deck has been converted to a visitor and permit facility. This change will yield many more visitor spaces, keep customers from circling around the loop waiting for spaces to open in the E03 lot (this lot will be converted to a permit only lot), and give customers more flexibility and options. The enforcement hours are now 8:00 am to 4:00 pm M-F in the East Deck. UGA ID card holders can park for free in the East Deck from 4:00 pm until 8:00 am (please ensure that you present your UGA ID to exit free). Ramsey permits will continue to be accepted in the East Deck for faculty/staff for the 90 minutes currently allowed. The Hull St deck has been converted to a permit only deck to make room for permit holders in the NW part of campus when the W13 lot closes permanently in January 2010 because of construction.

  6. West Deck. Parking Services has re-engineered the traffic flow in this deck to prevent a potential traffic safety problem. While we were at it, we painted and seal-coated the upper lot, improved signage, and even painted the light poles.

  7. Motorcycles/Scooters. Due to lots of feedback from all categories of parking customers, Parking Services will establish a motorcycle/scooter task force (advisory council) of selected students, faculty, and staff in the Fall 2009 to review motorcycle and scooter parking policies. Current policies will not change until after the advisory council has met.

  8. Disability Registration. Good news for customers with disabilities! We have improved our registration processes. Customers with disabilities can now register for parking completely online by submitting their disability placard or license information via FAX, mail, or scanned image. Please follow the procedures under My Parking Account (Register for Parking) tab.

  9. SafeDrive. Safedrive is a service we initiated last year where we brought in professional mechanics to inspect vehicles, top-off fluids, inflate tires, etc.. Because of the overwhelming customer appreciation for this service last year, we will again offer Safedrive this year before the Fall and Spring breaks.

  10. Appearance/Safety Improvements. We have updated and improved many lots on campus this summer to make parking more pleasurable for customers. Some of these lots include S14, Tate lot, E09, S04, E14, W06, W12 and N07. In addition to the safety improvements made to the West Deck, we have improved lighting in the North, West, East Village, Carlton and Hull decks, installed safety reflectors in the Hull and Tate decks, and installed cameras in the East and Tate decks.

  11. Feedback. We consider your feedback to be the most important information in our organization. Please let us know when you have problems or concerns, or recommendations for improvement, or compliments, by using the Feedback Button.
