What are the cost of parking permits?
Answer: Permits are sold for the academic year or calendar
year and are good through Spring or Summer. Generally, the cost of a permit is $20,
$30, or $40 per month depending on the lot. Permits can not be purchased month to
month. The price is prorated through the year
How do I get a permit?
Answer: Register online in the spring for the upcoming
fall. Any one wishing to be considered for a permit in the fall should do so then.
Specific dates and deadlines will be posted and permit assignments are usually issued
in mid-July. At other times of the year, customers may register at any time and
may purchase a non-waitlist permit from Parking Services.
How do I get a temporary permit and how long is it valid?
Answer: A free temporary permit can be obtained at the
Parking Services office for up to two occurrences per year. A fee of $5.00 per day
is due for a temporary permit beyond the courtesy two issues per year. Temporary
permits are valid for one day only and you must be a valid permit holder.
Are permits assigned on a first come, first served basis?
Answer: No, Permits are assigned using the Priority
Parking System. Registering earlier than someone with a higher priority will not
place you above them on the waitlist.
Why is it important to register before the 1st round deadline if permits are not
assigned on a first come first served basis?
Answer: If you wait to register after the first round
of assignments, the majority of the permit assignments have already been made and
accepted. In order to be considered based on your priority you have to get your
name on the waitlist to be compared to others requesting the same lot.
Do I need a permit for the summer?
Answer: Yes. Permits are available to purchase at the
end of May over the counter to customers while they last. Availability will be assessed
at that time. The cost will be $30, $60 or $90, depending on the lot.
How and when will I receive my permit?
Answer: Permits will be mailed out beginning July 20,
2009 to the address you have on file for all Faculty and Staff. Students will have
to pick up their permits at WILL-CALL. Student permits will not be mailed. Faculty
and Staff need to ensure that a current mailing address is on file prior to July
10, 2009.
When will I be notified of my parking assignment?
Answer: Assignments are done weekly, and anyone assigned
a parking space will receive an e-mail on the first working day upon allocations.
I have been notified that I was assigned a permit for a designated lot/deck. What
steps must I take to be issued a permit?
Answer: Come into Parking Services and accept your parking
assignment. You will be issued a permit to display in your vehicle.
Where does my permit fee go? What does it pay for?
Answer: Permit fees and all other revenue collected
by Parking Services is used to pay for Parking Deck Debt, maintain / repair lots,
purchase supplies, and pay for personnel. The majority of these revenue collections
pay for Parking Deck Debt.
If I report my permit lost, what do I do if I find it later?
Answer: Immediately return the found permit to Parking
Services (use of a permit that is filed as lost will result in ticketing, booting,
and/or towing).
Is my permit transferable to another vehicle?
Answer: Yes, Hangtags and non-AVI decals can be transferred
between different vehicles you drive. Non-AVI Decals can be peeled off your windshield
and reaffixed to another car. Ensure that you register each vehicle.
My leg is in a cast from a skiing accident. May I obtain a temporary disability
permit?
Answer: Yes, if you have a valid state issued Disabled
Person's Parking Permit placard or license tag. Present a completed Parking Services
disability registration form and a copy of the state issued placard from http://www.dmv.org/ga-georgia/disabled-drivers.php or license
tag registration to Parking Services. It is the responsibility of the customer to
maintain current disability registration information with Parking Services.
If I am an employee, do I have to turn my permit in to keep from owing or will the
payroll deductions just stop?
Answer: Even employees need to return their permit when
they are finished using them in order to keep from owing additional fees. Until
the permit is returned Parking Services has no way of knowing you no longer need
it and will not be able to re-allocate the permit to another employee or student
anxiously awaiting its use.
What if I sell my old car?
Answer: Any changes to your vehicle status should be
reported to Parking Services to avoid unnecessary confusions. If you sell your car
and the new owner brings it on campus without registering it and receives a citation,
the citation will be linked to you unless you have notified Parking Services of
the change.
How will I receive my refund?
Answer: Refunds for any permit charged to a student
account will be processed through a credit issued to your student account. Refunds
for a permit paid by Payroll Deduction, cash, check, or credit card will be processed
through Accounts Payable in the form of a refund check.
How long will I have to wait to receive my refund?
Answer: Student Account credits are sent daily, but
Student Accounts only issues refund checks once a month, so it could be as long
as a month before a refund check is issued assuming there is no other balance on
the student account. Refunds processed through Accounts Payable will take 7 - 10
business days once the request for refund is completed.
I no longer need a parking permit but my friend does. Can I just sell it to him?
Answer: No, Permits are for use by the individual issued
the permit. Persons found misappropriating a permit issued to another may be disciplined.
If you no longer need a parking permit, you must return the permit to Parking Services.
The registered permit holder will be held responsible for any citations issued where
the permit is displayed.
How do I cancel my permit? How can I get a refund?
Answer: Just bring your permit to Parking Services.
Refunds for any permit charged to a student account will be credited to your student
account. Refunds for a permit paid by Payroll Deduction, cash, check, or credit
card will be processed through Accounts Payable in the form of a refund check.
I cancelled or returned my permit and received a refund, but have decided that I
will need to purchase another one. What should I do?
Answer: Register for another parking permit. Once the
permit has been returned, it will be recoded and placed back in our inventory to
be re-issued.
What should I do to exchange permits once my preferred lot choice from the waitlist
has been assigned to me?
Answer: Return your previously issued permit, and you
will be issued a new permit for your new lot.
Will Parking Services replace my lost or stolen permit?
Answer: A replacement permit can be obtained at the
Parking Services office. The replacement fee for lost or stolen permits is $35.00
and is due when the new permit is issued. The reported lost or stolen permit will
be deactivated. Any vehicle displaying a lost or stolen permit may be immobilized
or towed. If you find the lost or stolen permit after a replacement has been issued,
please return it to the Parking Services Office.
